What makes the L Series distinct in the River Pools lineup: it is the only Roman-end shape River Pools makes. Every other River Pools series is either strictly rectangular or fully freeform. The L36 sits in the middle: a rectangular body for swim space, with a rounded Roman entry that gives the pool a softer, more traditional read.

Who the L Series Is Built For

The L Series fits you if you want:
  • The traditional Roman-end pool look, rectangular body plus rounded shallow entry.
  • A built-in tanning ledge for shallow lounging.
  • An open swim lane through the rectangular body.
  • A deep-end bench for cool-down seating.
  • A more residential, classic backyard pool profile than a strictly-modern rectangle.
It's a less efficient match if you want:
  • Auto-cover compatibility. The L Series is not engineered for hidden cover tracks; pick R Series, D Series, M Series, T Series, or X Series.
  • A strictly rectangular look. Pick R Series for open swim or D Series for rectangular with a ledge.
  • A fully freeform shape. Pick C Series or I Series.
  • A real deep end you can dive into. Pick T Series T40.
  • A smaller yard footprint. The L36 is one size at 16' × 36'.

The L36

Spec L36
Width × Length 16' × 36'
Shape Roman-end (rounded shallow entry, rectangular body)
Tanning ledge Yes, in the shallow end
Open swim lane Yes, through the rectangular body
Deep-end bench Yes
Integrated spa No
Auto-cover ready No

The L36 is the only model in the L Series. The Roman-end profile gives you a rounded entry on the shallow end and a rectangular shape through the body and deep end.

Interior Layout

The L36 interior reads as three zones running from shallow to deep:

  1. Roman entry and tanning ledge. The rounded shallow end holds the tanning ledge at the shallow lounging depth. The Roman shape gives the entry a wider footprint than a strictly-rectangular entry, which also expands the ledge.

  2. Open swim lane. The rectangular body of the pool is uninterrupted floor, giving you a clear swim path between the tanning ledge and the deep end.

  3. Deep-end bench. A built-in bench at the deep end of the rectangular body gives you in-water seating after a swim.

The Roman shape is purely architectural; the swim function is the same as a rectangular pool of the same size.

Why Roman-End

The Roman-end profile is the most traditional swimming pool shape in residential pool design. The rounded entry reads softer than a strict rectangle without going all the way to a curved freeform. Three reasons buyers pick the Roman-end over a pure rectangle:

  • Architectural fit. A Roman-end pool reads as classic and pairs especially well with traditional or transitional home architecture.
  • Wider shallow entry. The Roman shape gives you more shallow-end footprint at the wading and entry depth, which is useful for kids and for the tanning ledge.
  • Visual softening. A pure rectangle reads as a modern architectural object. A Roman-end reads as a traditional pool.

L Series vs. Other River Pools Series

L Series vs. R Series

L Series vs. R Series fiberglass pool comparison

Both are 16'-wide rectangular-body pools at the L36 / R36 size. R is strictly rectangular and auto-cover-ready; L36 has a Roman entry and is not auto-cover-ready. Pick R for clean rectangular plus cover; pick L for Roman entry and traditional look.

L Series vs. D Series

L Series vs. D Series fiberglass pool comparison

Both have a tanning ledge and a 16' × 36' available size (the D36). D is strictly rectangular and auto-cover-ready; L36 has a Roman entry and is not auto-cover-ready. Pick D for rectangular plus cover; pick L for the Roman shape.

L Series vs. C Series / I Series

L Series vs. C Series / I Series fiberglass pool comparison

Both share the tanning ledge plus deep-end bench feature mix and the no-auto-cover constraint. C and I are fully freeform curved shapes; L is Roman-end (rectangular body with rounded shallow entry). Pick C or I for fully curved; pick L if you want the rectangular body's swim function with a softer shallow entry.

Common Questions

No. The Roman-end coping is not engineered for hidden cover tracks. A safety net or a manual cover is possible; an automatic safety cover is not.

Not as an integrated feature of the L36 shell. A standalone hot tub installed beside the pool is the cleanest path.

No, the L36 uses a conventional deep end. For a divable fiberglass pool, pick the T Series T40.

The rectangular body of the L36 is the swim zone, the same as the rectangular section of an R36. The Roman entry adds shallow footprint at the wading and ledge end; it does not reduce the open swim lane.
